The biggest brick bridge in the world, built with over 26 million bricks!!!!
Situated between Mylau and Netzschkau, the Göltzschtal bridge inspires awe in all who see it. It is a feat of technical engineering, achieved at a time when hand work was the norm. It was also described in a poem, written by the workers who built it, as the 'Eigth Wonder of the World!'
 
 

Facts about the Göltzschtal bridge:
  •  Built between 1846 and 1851 
  • Stands at 574m long and 78m high 
  • Consists of 4 storeys with 81 arches 
  • Designed by Prof. Andreas Schubert 
  • Chief Engineer - Robert Wilke 
  • Construction leader - Ferdinand Dost 
  • Contains 26 million brick (52 % brickwork - also sandstone and granite)
